Your vehicle may play a different role every day. It may need to commute through Decatur in the morning, pick up a full cabin of kids after school, or even ramble off-road when it's time for adventure. The SUV segment is defined by multitasking, and nobody designs with versatility in mind like Honda. That's why the Honda Passport has quickly earned a warm reception from drivers seeking a well-rounded sport utility vehicle.

The spacious cabin was built to carry friends and family in lasting comfort, and you can drive with peace of mind knowing that all on board are protected by the cutting-edge safety systems of the Honda Sensing suite. What's New in the 2019 Honda Passport?

After years of focusing on their other SUV models, Honda has reintroduced their Passport with a total redesign. The 2019 model brings the Passport directly to the frontier of Honda design and engineering, presenting the latest in technology, performance, and safety.

The 2019 Passport holds five in a handsome cabin with high-quality materials. The seats offer plenty of support for longer drives, and comfort may be enhanced with options like heated seats, ventilated seats, leather upholstery, and other fine touches. The SUV provides 41.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back row, and that area increases to 77.9 cubic feet when the back row is folded. If you intend to use the Passport as a family vehicle, you'll find two full sets of car seat connections in the rear seat, plus an additional tether between them.

The Passport's console houses an intuitive touchscreen as well as physical controls, and you'll have access to a variety of infotainment options. Available technology features include wireless device charging, navigation, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard safety features found within the Honda Sensing suite include automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning among others.

The Passport now runs on a 280-horsepower-liter V6 engine that delivers 262 pound-feet of torque. The engine pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission to form the same powertrain team found in the upper trim levels of the Honda Pilot. The Passport accelerates with enthusiasm, and it can even be equipped to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Handling is compliant and smooth on streets and highways, but your journey doesn't have to end with the pavement. With 8.1 inches of ground clearance and a variable torque management system, you can venture off-road with confidence. You can even select special drive setting custom-designed to handle sand, snow, or mud.

History of the Honda Passport

Long before a totally new version debuted in 2019, the original Passport arrived in the U.S. in 1994 as one of Honda's early entries into the growing SUV market. The initial models were available with either two-wheel and four-wheel drive, and early upgrades included new trim options in 1995 and an updated drive system in 1996. The second generation released in 1998, with a longer body and a more powerful engine. This generation ran until 2002, when Honda chose to replace the Passport line with the Pilot.

An all-new Passport was unveiled at the 2018 LA Auto Show, representing a drastic leap forward for the midsize SUV. The Passport's stylish exterior and adroit off-road capability has quickly won over drivers, and the reimagined SUV has already gained ground within the competitive SUV segment.
